About AASI

The Association of African Students In India (AASI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and empowering African students in India. Our main objectives are to unite African students and to address any challenges or problems they may face while studying abroad. As a diverse and vibrant community, we offer a range of programs and services to help African students feel connected and supported. These include academic support, cultural events, and social activities that help students feel at home in India. Association of African Students in India was founded by the late President of N Malawi ‘His Excellency Prof. Dr. Bingu Wa Mutharika’ who was relatively a student as at that time in university of Delhi at Shir Ram college of Commerce. Although the association hit halt for quite some time but thanks toMr. Emmanuel Earl Ankrah who in 2010 was able to revive the nonprofit Organization it still holds firm today.

Who we are

The Association of African Students (AASI) in India a non profit Organization, is a re-emerging umbrella organisation uniting all African students in India to facilitate cooperation between its members and the international academic world, study and publicize and advocate the educational and related needs of African higher education institutions.

What we do

We facilitate the exchange of information, culture and experience among members of the academic community and to contribute to African development by fostering collaboration among its member students; by providing support to their core functions of teaching, learning, research and community engagement; and by facilitating critical reflection and consensus-building around, issues affecting higher education and the development of Africa.

Why us

The main objectives of the Association are to promote cooperation among African students in the world; collect, classify,modify, improve and disseminate information on higher education and research, particularly in Africa; facilitate cooperation between its members and the international academic world; study and publicize and advocate the educational and related needs of African higher education institutions; and facilitate the exchange of information and experience among members of the academic community, and promote best practices.

 Our History

Having started in 1960s by late Malawian President His Excellency Prof. Dr. Bingu Wa Mutharika who was a student at the Shri Ram College of Commerce, University of Delhi in India by then. It later lost momentum when he left due to some reasons and it was reignited by Emmanuel Earl Ankrah after the visit of late Prof. Dr. Bingu in India in November, 2010.

From 2011 to 2012 the Association has been run by the acting Executive Committee headed by then Acting President BERNARD OHENE YIRENKYI (from Ghana) who was a political science student at SRI VENKATESWARA COLLEGE New Delhi.
