Discrimination, stereotypes or prejudice is a growing concern in our world today and India is definitely not an exception. It is capable of shattering one’s confidence and sense of worth. It is very capable of undermining one’s ability to perform exceedingly well in every facet of life. More dangerously, it locks people out of social and economic opportunities, entrenching disadvantage. Ultimately, Discrimination, stereotypes or prejudice hurts humanity. This awareness campaign seeks to unite everyone irrespective of race, location or religious affiliations.
The Association of African Students in India (AASI) has flagged off an awareness campaign against all patterns of discrimination and stereotypes. In solidarity on this campaign is the International Youth Committee (IYC) Manipur Students Association Delhi (MSAD) and the North-East Forum for Solidarity (NEFIS) the awareness campaign is sequel to its press statement released on the 15th of May with Irom Sharmila, a renowned human rights activists from North East India who has always stood for social justice. Having identified the major attributing factors to the treatment meted out to not just African Students in India but also students from the North-East and other minority groups in India.
The Association of African Students in India (AASI), in the last press conference stated her resolve to embark on an Awareness campaign to sensitive the general populace of the need for tolerance and acceptance towards others irrespective of our differences.
The Association of African Students in India is taking this initiative because it wants to be part of the solution to a problems with a strong message of acceptance, tolerance, peace and unity for the good of humanity.
This campaign seeks to promote in Acceptance, Tolerance, Peace and Unity to prevent and reduce stereotypes and prejudice in the society.
Empower communities and individuals to take actions to prevent and reduce discrimination, stereotypes and prejudice and to seek redress whenever it occurs.
The aim of this campaign is to bring to our consciousness of what we have in common as humans irrespective of our different believe systems, race or affiliations.
Community engagement with our host communities open by building communication lines to understand our differences and also giving the locals tools and resources to take practical action against discrimination, stereotypes or prejudice.
Encourage individuals and organizations to prevent and respond effectively against this anti-human vices.
Across India, there are individuals doing great things to reduce and prevent Discrimination, stereotypes or prejudice . We seek to engage the people at the grassroots in the local communities or specific environments who have a deep understanding of this issues, ideas and how to curb them.
We are therefore calling on the government and the people of India to join us on this campaign to promote Acceptance and Tolerance and unite against discrimination & Stereotype.
